New project! Working on another tutorial. This one is an alleyway exterior environment. Pretty smooth sailing so far. Can't wait to do something all on my own. Here is my alleyway progress so far.
And another perspective, showcasing my favorite part and my least favorite part in one screen shot. The door is my favorite. I really liked learning to do the arches. The window, looks terrible right now. I'm sure he has plans for it. But yeah right now it makes me want to die. Even if it turns out to be just a normal shaped oval window... I don't recall ever seeing a window like that in that placement. I may have to change it... we shall see.

Finished, for real this time
Quinn came through with some help on my fuzzy front fork problem. As it turns out I had some phantom geometry hiding in there. I had to select the offending objects and then go to mesh > separate. This let me isolate the geometry inside and delete it. Anyways, the finished product!

Finished! Well almost.
The render on my bike. I thought I was done, but the render reminded me of an odd problem I had early on. The front forks didn't seem to entirely reverse surface direction, so in one sided lighting, or in a RENDER they look hairy... I think I may have to delete and re build them. has anyone seen anything like this? I will put a screen cap of the forks up close below the render.
It did that before I added the material too. Can I salvage these forks or do I have to re-do them?

Working working working. Stil enjoying it. Maya does some strange things. Usually if people have problems with software I tend to side with the software and assume they did something wrong, even if they aren't aware of it. Maya on the other hand seems to lose its mind sometimes and a very typical command produces wildly atypical results. I wish I had taken pictures of a few of the things that were spawned earlier. I just wound up closing Maya and re-starting it after two freak outs in a 15 minute period. Since I re-opened it I haven't had any problems. Oh Maya, you so crazy...
My progress. SHPROCKETS!!

Slowly but surely. Last night was a bit of a turning point. In between my two posts on here last night I just started to understand Maya more than I had. I became more comfortable, and less afraid of screwing something up. Since then things have still been going slow but I feel soo much better about it.
Here, as you can see I have finished the wheels and am now working on the handlebars. Oh and I am on 11 or 12 hours in this project so far. I imagine a lot of people in my class are going much more quickly. I am slow as molasses. Hopefully I that slowness means I am retaining it.

So here we go. The launching post for my blog. Don't take this as my approval for this whole blog thing by the way. I have to do this for school. :)
